Hare
Raisers
The Hare Raisers 4-H Rabbit Club has been going strong
since 1993!
When the Club Meets: The club meets
on Tuesdays.
Advisors: Marcia Reilly, Kattie Reilly, Linda Schrenckengost and Susan Pohto
Main Club Project: Breeding Rabbits; Market
Rabbit; Pet Rabbit.
As a club they attend a Junior Fair Livestock Sale
Meeting to observe Parliamentary Procedure and obtain
a partial understanding of the responsibilities of a
member taking a market livestock project. Those taking
part in a market project are expected to attend additional
meetings held on the 2nd Thursday of each month.
Club members are encouraged to participate in American
Rabbit Breeder Association shows and to apply for membership
in the organization and in other state rabbit breed
clubs. Information pertaining to the shows is provided
during the meetings throughout the year. Members have
participated and placed in the Ohio State Rabbit Breeders
Royalty Contest; the Ohio State Junior Fair, and National
American Rabbit Breeder Association Shows. The club
encourages hands-on education in rabbit breeding, showmanship,
and marketing.
Other Club Activities: The Hare Raisers are
big on Community Service!
At Christmas-time, the club makes “Cookie Mix Gift
Bags” for the Hunger Task Force to distribute to the
pantries throughout Geauga County. A Geauga needy family
receives a Christmas bag containing a sealed cookie
mix, sprinkles, icing, and cookie cutter, so that they
may enjoy the experience of making Christmas cookies
together as a family!
The Geauga County Dog Warden and his family was invited
to the club’s 2008 Christmas party for food, fun, an
ornament exchange, and the club’s gift of items for
the canine residents of the shelter.
The Hare Raisers-sponsored 5th Annual Geauga County
Food-A-Thon benefiting the Geauga Hunger Task Force
will be taking place this summer. The benefit is open
to all 4-H members ages 5 yrs. through 18 yrs. The Hare
Raisers encourage all Geauga County 4-H clubs to join
them in collecting non-perishable food items, hygienic
products, and laundry/cleaning products to share with
their Geauga County neighbors in need. The dates set
for the annual collection at the Rabbit Barn on the
fairgrounds are:
Thursday, August 13, 2009 4:30 – 7:30 p. m.
Friday, August 14, 2009 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
-It is requested that club items be in a sturdy cardboard
box.
-Please count the number of items; mark this number
on the box along with club name.
-Monetary donations in the form of a check made payable
to “Geauga Hunger Task Force” are much appreciated by
the Hunger Task Force. Recipients of the items are unable
to use food stamps to purchase hygienic and cleaning
products; therefore, monetary donations are also very
much needed.
