Golden
Thimbles &
Options
The Golden Thimbles & Options is a small club with about five to eight members. The club’s beginning took place in 1988! The desire of its members to take on additional miscellaneous projects resulted in the additions of the words “& Options”. Learning to sew for yourself or for others is the objective of the club, each year purposefully focusing on the 4-H motto: “To Make the Best, Better.”
Club Meetings:
Many of the members of Golden Thimbles & Options are members of various other 4-H clubs. A club meeting is held prior to April 15 each year, for the purpose of electing officers, choice of Community Service project, and sewing fabric/pattern/project information. Once summer vacation begins, the club meets once to twice weekly, for approximately 2-3 hours each meeting, until county clothing Judging and Style Review at the end of July. On a need to have basis, an extra meeting to sew on projects may be scheduled.
Main Club Project: Sewing
Sewing instruction is provided at each meeting and if needed on a one-to-one basis.
Members are encouraged to sew at home under the instruction of experienced sewers and/or with other club members at sewing meetings. Additional projects taken by the members are at the member/family discretion and responsibility. Participation in county clothing Judging and the Style Review is highly encouraged. Club participation in setting up a booth to display project items during the county fair and participation in the Geauga County Fair Style Show are also encouraged.
Portable sewing machines are member owned; however, under special circumstances a sewing machine and accessories can be provided. Project completion offers achievement and demands dedication.
